About Far Hills NJ
In the 1880s, Evander H. Schley—a New York land developer and real estate broker—acquired thousands of acres across Bedminster and Bernards Townships. In 1887, his brother Grant and sister-in-law Elizabeth visited the property by horse-drawn carriage. As the story goes, Elizabeth admired the sweeping landscape and referred to it as the “far hills,” a name that endured even before the village was formally established.
